The first 18 holes at the 2021 PGA Championship  featured a little of everything. There were grandstands pummeled, lies plugged in sand and even a hole-in-one in a trash can style. Yeah, you read that right. This course gritted its teeth fiercely throughout it all, allowing only 30 golfers in the field to reach the red. The wind and the heat played a significant factor, and Round 2 conditions on Friday should be no different as the stakes ratchet up a notch.

There’s plenty to watch for in Round 2 after Corey Conners swooped in and stole the show with an opening-round 67 to take the early lead. Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas are fighting from eight strokes back of Conners. Jordan Spieth, after a dispiriting but solid Day 1, is still aiming for the career grand slam. Meanwhile, 50-year-old Phil Mickelson looms three strokes off the lead after an impressive 2-under 70. The drama should be high with the weekend cut on deck and treacherous conditions set to test the field once again.
