The Big Sky Conference announced Friday it would be delaying the 2020 fall football season due to COVID-19 concerns. The football season is now slated to begin spring of 2021.Big Sky Conference represents institutions across the country, including Sacramento State and UC Davis.”The health and safety of our students is our top priority, and ultimately that concern guided our decision-making process over the past few months as we explored every option regarding the 2020 football season,” said Andy Feinstein, president of the University of Northern Colorado and chair of the Big Sky Presidents’ Council.Nonconference play for football programs is still being discussed, according to Sacramento State Athletics officials. “We support the decision of the Big Sky Conference presidents to not play football in the fall,” Sacramento State Director of Athletics Mark Orr said. “We will share details of the spring season as they become available and look forward to the day that our players, coaches, staff and fans can return to the field.”
