Registration for first doses of the Pfizer vaccine will be available beginning at 9 a.m. Friday by calling 211, or online through Allegheny Alerts.

A limited number of first-dose appointments for COVID-19 vaccine at the Allegheny County Health Department clinic in Castle Shannon will be available starting Friday morning.Related video above: Pittsburgh doctor addresses questions about vaccine side effectsAppointments will be available only for people age 65 and above to receive the Pfizer vaccine the week of March 1.Links for appointments will be available at 9 a.m. Friday through Allegheny Alerts and posted shortly after on the vaccine page of the Health Department’s website, the county said.Phone appointments for people who do not have internet access will be available by calling 211 beginning at 9 a.m. Friday.Appointments are required. There will be no on-site registration or walk-up appointments. Anyone who shows up without an appointment, or who is not 65 or older, will be turned away.It is anticipated that appointments will fill quickly, and 211 callers should expect long wait times.The vaccine clinic is located at the Castle Shannon VFD at 3600 Library Road.Second doses of the Moderna vaccine are being scheduled for people who got their first doses at the county’s Monroeville clinic between Feb. 1 and Feb. 4 and are due for their second doses between March 1 and March 4. Emails with registration links will be sent to those patients.
