It’s the first weekend after new masking recommendations were issued in Sacramento and Yolo Counties.Health leaders in those counties are asking everyone, regardless of vaccination status, to wear a face-covering indoors. They say it is because of a rise in cases due to the highly contagious delta variant among the unvaccinated. KCRA 3 hit the streets of Sacramento to learn what locals and visitors are doing to keep themselves and those around them safe.”It’s about a long time since we’ve been outside,” said Price Dyer, owner of Make It Do What It Do food truck. “You always have to be concerned about everything that goes in the world today.”Dyer said he is fully vaccinated, but that his staff must maintain social distancing and wear face masks at work. “Why not be careful,” said Floyd Burleigh of West Sacramento. “I’m 69 years old, I have both of my shots, but the same people who had shots are getting .”Burleigh said he planned to continue wearing his face mask both indoors and outdoors, and hoped more people would consider doing the same. “People are now starting to get closer to you, they are not keeping your distance,” observed Sandra Loretl, who lives with elderly family members in Elk Grove. “That’s scary. I don’t want to take anything back to my mom, even if it’s a cold.”Loretl said she is fully vaccinated, but planned to continue wearing her face mask indoors. “We have grandchildren under the age of 12, so we are making sure that we don’t put them at risk,” said Paul Arroyo from Elk Grove. Arroyo and his wife, Grace, are both vaccinated. They agreed that they preferred dining outdoors than indoors because of the delta variant, and always kept extra face masks on hand. Medical experts continue to emphasize the importance of vaccination to achieve community immunity. Right now, 47% of Sacramento County’s population is fully vaccinated.
