TCU athletic director Jeremiah Donati confirmed reports that Gary Patterson and TCU have mutually agreed to a parting of ways after 22 seasons together.

Patterson took over as TCU’s head coach in 2000 and led the Horned Frogs to a 181-79 record. In his tenure, Patterson has seen TCU change conferences three times. In 2001 TCU went from the WAC to Conference USA, in 2005 TCU left conference USA for the Mountain West Conference, and in 2012 TCU joined the Big 12.

With Patterson at the helm, TCU has made a bowl game 17 times in 21 complete seasons, going 11-6 in those games. In 2009 and 2014 Patterson was named the Walter Camp Coach of the Year and in 2002 and 2005 he was selected as the best coach in his conference.

During his time in charge Patterson has coached six consensus All-Americans, including LaDanian Tomlinson in 2000, and most recently Josh Doctson in 2015.

Special assistant to the head coach Jerry Kill will reportedly take over as interim head coach for the rest of the season at TCU. Kill has eight years of head coaching experience at the collegiate level, most recently coaching Minnesota from 2011-2015.
