Nine people have died and more than three dozen residents have tested positive for coronavirus at the Watsonville Post Acute Center. On Wednesday, Santa Cruz County announced 46 WPA residents and 15 staff have tested positive for COVID-19. Nine residents have died from COVID-19. The nursing home deaths account for nearly half of all reported coronavirus deaths in the county. “Our condolences go out to these individuals’ families and friends,” read a news release from the county health service office. County health officials are working with the facility on a daily basis to review protocols on isolation, quarantine, testing, and screening, as well as resource requests for staff and supplies critical to resolving the outbreak.
