Brandon Graham aims to stay with rebuilding Eagles: ‘I don’t want to go anywhere’ – The Athletic
Graham thought the Wentz trade “was good for both parties.” He lamented seeing the abrupt ending of the coach-quarterback combination that helped bring Philadelphia a Super Bowl, but Graham pointed out that he has experienced much in this league and isn’t often surprised. Graham has played for four head coaches (including an interim), five defensive coordinators (including an interim) and seven position coaches (including an interim), so he’s well versed in the NFL’s revolving door. Of course, it’s different when it’s a franchise quarterback. Few could have imagined when Wentz was drafted that Graham would outlast him in the Eagles locker room. But Graham thinks this move will be beneficial for Wentz. “Philly is a tough market and tough place to play in, and so when things weren’t going right, I know it was … probably tough on him and his family to have to live through that,” Graham said. “So it’s a breath of fresh air for all of us.”

I get the wisdom of trading down. For an Eagles team lacking talent so badly, the more lottery tickets and throws at the dartboard the better, right? The Birds need a star though. A legitimate capital-S Star. The higher they pick, the odds go down that Howie Roseman is going to completely eff up the pick. Philly got crapped on both locally and nationally for their tankfest in Week 17 against Washington to guarantee they’d get a top-six pick. They’re really going to trade down after enduring that? Just draft Ja’Marr Chase. Just draft DeVonta Smith. Just draft Jaylen Waddle. Just draft Penei Sewell. Remove the variables and luck and get the guy you want without getting cute about it. Roseman has a Danny Ainge-like ability to say, “The guy we wanted went just before us!” Don’t give me that. You’re high up. Grab a stud.

Three free agents who make sense for the Eagles, version 3.0 – PhillyVoice
On Eagles kickoff returns in 2020, it was as if someone stretched invisible fishing wire from sideline to sideline at the 20 yard line, and Boston Scott would trip over it on every return. On punt returns, while Jalen Reagor did have a TD return, it was an adventure for him fielding punts. Plus, as the roster stands right now, he’s probably the team’s No. 1 WR, so there should be debate whether or not to use him at all on special teams. Otherwise, Greg Ward was (a) wholly unthreatening when he fielded punts, and (b) he let too many punts hit the ground. One way the Eagles can help out their offense this season is to give them better starting field position, and maybe even a big play here or there. Agnew would help both on kick returns and punt returns.
Not a Fire Sale – Iggles Blitz
Barring a miracle, the Eagles won’t be good in 2021. Lurie needs them to be competitive and/or entertaining. If fans stop watching and stop caring, that’s a problem. And that’s why the Eagles need to make sure they keep some good veterans around. I hope BG is able to finish his career as an Eagle. He’s been fun to watch over the years and it would be cool if he only played for one team. We don’t know if that will happen, but we do know he’ll remain an Eagle for at least one more year. It would also be great if Graham was able to last until the Eagles can get back to the playoffs. You would love to see a guy like him go out in a winning season. That doesn’t mean winning the Super Bowl, but just getting back to the playoffs. After the misery of 2020 and the likely frustration of 2021, just getting back to the right side of .500 would feel pretty amazing.

Philadelphia Eagles: The Big Play for Carson Wentz. Even though they didn’t technically win the Super Bowl with Wentz, it’s difficult to imagine them winning it all without him getting them to 10-2 before going down with a knee injury. He earned a career-high 84.9 overall grade that season before tearing his ACL. Even though he’s not been the same since, Wentz still netted the Eagles a third and what could be a first next year. Quarterback value is undefeated.
Kyle Rudolph thinks Vikings win Super Bowl in 2017 with Sam Bradford – NBCSP
Rudolph, 31, penned a nice goodbye letter to Minnesota in The Players’ Tribune. It’s a nice gesture. Rudolph thanks the team, his teammates, fans. It’s thoughtful but not out of the ordinary. But there is one part in particular that will stand out for Eagles fans … when Rudolph mentions Sam Bradford: “Guys like Sam Bradford, who never got the credit he deserved, but battled through injury for two years to try to get us over the hump. (I sincerely believe that we win a Super Bowl in 2017 if Sam is healthy. Such an incredibly talented dude, an unreal passer when his body was right.)” A Super Bowl, you say? This might get a side glance from Eagles fans for two reasons.
Giants release Golden Tate and David Mayo – Big Blue View
The first major offseason dominoes have fallen for the New York Giants, as the team released Golden Tate and David Mayo, per Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport. The moves make plenty of sense for the Giants, who had less than $1 million in cap space prior to the releases. The team will save roughly $8.4 million dollars by moving on from the 32-year-old wide receiver and the 27-year-old linebacker. After signing a four-year, $37.5 million contract in 2019, Tate’s tenure with the Giants got off to a rocky start when he was suspended for four games by the NFL for violating its banned substance policy. From there, the former Super Bowl champion only put up 1,064 total yards and 8 touchdowns in two seasons with the team and started only four games in 2020. Tate was left behind for a road game during the 2020 season after his on-field antics drew the ire of coach Joe Judge.
Ex-Jets QB Christian Hackenberg lands as coach at N.J. high school | What will his role be? – NJ.com
Hackenberg was with the Eagles during the 2018 preseason, but didn’t make their final roster. He spent most of the 2018 season on the Bengals’ practice squad, but was released in early November of that year and hasn’t been with an NFL team since. In 2019, Hackenberg played for the Memphis Express in the Alliance of American Football. But Hackenberg struggled, and the league folded after one season.
Report: Detroit Lions signing WR Tyrell Williams to 1-year deal – Pride Of Detroit
The Detroit Lions got a jump start on free agency Wednesday. The team has reportedly agreed to terms with former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Tyrell Williams, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Per the report, the deal is worth “up to $6.2 million,” but there are no details yet on the structure of the contract. [BLG Note: So much for a Nick Sirianni reunion.]
Futures: Alabama CB Patrick Surtain II – Football Outsiders
Either way, Surtain’s ability as a pro will be contingent on how well he plays around having average speed. In the SEC, he did so exceptionally, hardly ever getting beat over the top while drawing zero penalties thanks to his phenomenal technique and positioning. Cornerbacks without makeup speed must be among the league’s elite when it comes to winning before that speed comes into question, though, and Surtain will need to prove he is in that group. As far as Surtain’s place in this draft class, there’s no reason he should fall outside the top 20. Surtain is not a special cornerback prospect, but he is already ahead of the curve developmentally and is built to handle the NFL’s physicality on the outside. In a cornerback class that looks to taper off a bit after the first few guys, plenty of teams needing help in the middle of the first round should be eyeing Surtain.
Ravens to propose revolutionary “spot and choose” overtime procedure – PFT
Per multiple sources with knowledge of the situation, the Ravens will be proposing a pair of overtime procedures premised on the concept of “spot and choose.” It works like this: One team picks the spot of the ball to start overtime, and the other team chooses whether to play offense or defense. If the one team picks, for example, the offense’s own 20 yard line, the opponent would then choose whether to play offense from their own 20 or to play defense, with the other team having the ball on its own 20. This would minimize greatly the impact of the coin toss; under this proposal, the coin toss would be used only to give the team that wins the toss the right to pick the spot of the ball (along with the end zone to be defended) or to choose offense or defense.
Terry Bradshaw once pretended to be ‘Tom Brady’ to get surgery – SB Nation
One of the weirdest stories in sports history emerged courtesy of the Twitter account @QuirkyResearch, who uncovered an old story about Terry Bradshaw with an incredible twist, using the name ‘Thomas Brady’ to get secret surgery. In 1983, at the height of his NFL stardom, Bradshaw needed surgery on his throwing arm. We don’t know whether the injury was lingering from the season, or if it was caused working on his farm during the offseason — but the organization later said in a statement that it was caused by “minor wear and tear.” The Steelers quarterback didn’t want the attention of checking himself in under his real name. The hospital was in Shreveport, Louisiana, and naturally being a local legend he didn’t want word to get out that a four-time Super Bowl champion and NFL MVP was checking in.
