The Chicago Cubs today decided not to offer a 2021 contract to Kyle Schwarber, who is now a free agent. Schwarber has been a part of the organization for seven years, and was a postseason hero for the Cubs in 2015 and 2016. It’s just gonna take some time to adjust to this new reality.

On the decision to move forward without tendering Schwarber a contract, and on the possibility that the sides could later agree to a new deal, Cubs President Jed Hoyer spoke to the media tonight. Yes, a reunion is possible, but a free agent is a free agent.
