A systemwide computer outage that affected the check-in and boarding systems for at least two major airlines at Boston’s Logan International Airport and nationwide early Friday caused major delays.Crowds were building at Logan’s Terminal B as the issues were reported with American Airlines and JetBlue. “They are just trying to check in the people who had 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. flights now and trying to get everyone else to hold back,” one traveler said. “Apparently the kiosks don’t work, so they are checking everyone in manually.” The airlines said the issue was with Sabre, the technology used for air bookings.”Sabre had a technical issue that impacted multiple carriers, including American. This technical issue has been resolved. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience,” American Airlines said in a statement.JetBlue said its systems are beginning to come back online. Airports are using a manual check-in process, but delays continued. “I got here by 4:30 a.m. I have been here for an hour and a half, and I am so tired already. We have not even turned in our passes because they told us to hold on for other people for earlier flights, who are delayed already. I am so frustrated right now,” traveler Fire Osobajo said. Hours earlier, Virgin Australia, which also uses Sabre’s technology, experienced the same issues with its boarding process.
